Some people have larger or smaller air passages. Other people have muscles that aren’t strong enough to keep their airway open all night. Obesity is perhaps the most common cause of snoring. When a person is overweight they have more tissue around the throat area and this compresses the throat even more. This is particularly true when sleeping on the back. The result is often snoring.

Snoring is really just one of many consequences of being overweight. Leading an active life and eating healthy can go along way to bring your weight down to healthy level. You will likely experience many positive health benefits from this.

Another common cause of snoring is not breathing through the noise. Mouth breathing increases the chance that a person will snore. It is also a less healthy way to breathe. Our noises are designed to filter and regulate the temperature of the air we breath. If you tend to breath through your mouth a lot then it might take a conscious effort to breath through your noise at first. Changing this habit will be well worth the effort.

As you can see, the majority of snoring prevention comes in the form of changing habits or lifestyle choices. This is good news for most people because it means that snoring can be prevented or treated without the aid of medication or doctor visits. Simply understanding what the causes are and what you can do to change them goes a long way ending your snoring forever.
