Barbecue Grill Cleaning Tips
The warmer months will soon be upon us, bringing forth a time for entertaining friends and great barbecue grilling in the backyard. Some will say that there is nothing quite like the taste of dinner that has been prepared on the barbecue grill.
Just like you need to keep your kitchen stove in good working order, you also need to properly maintain your barbecue grill so that it stays clean and in good condition. Here are a few tips for you to think about when it comes time to clean your barbecue.
Before cleaning your bbq grill, be sure to read the instruction manual that came with it when you first bought it. Your particular barbecue cooking grill might have some do’s or don’ts that you should be aware of.
For example, some barbecue grills come with a warranty. You want to be sure that you will not be doing anything to damage the grill in the event that it would void the warranty.
If your grill doesn’t have specific instructions on how to clean it, then you can follow these general guidelines to cleaning a barbecue grill. First, you should invest in a good grill brush, preferably one that is made with brass bristles. Use this brush on the grill grate to work loose any stuck-on food.
Once the food particles have been loosened up, rinse them off of the grill with hot water. If the food buildup is particularly stubborn, you can add a good grease fighting dish soap to the hot water. It might also help to use a water hose for rinsing since the high pressure will help remove stuck on food.
If you still can’t get rid of those stubborn food stains, you can resort to the burning off method. To do that, cover the grate with aluminum foil and then turn the grill off. This traps heat under the gate which will help soften and loosen dried on food. Once the grill has cooled down, remove the foil and rinse the grate with water.
Remember that the grate will be the easiest to clean right after you have finished grilling your food. This works on the same principal as the burn off method, the heat keeps the food loose. Just wait for the grate to cool off enough so you can handle it and then scrub it with hot soapy water.
Another tip to keep in mind is that you can spray your grill with a non-stick cooking spray like you use when cooking in your kitchen. That will help keep food from sticking so clean up time goes much quicker. Cleaning a barbecue grill can be tedious especially if you allow dried food to build up. A clean grill is a lot more sanitary and will be easier for you to work with. If you clean your Barbecue grill right after each use you will be cleaning less and your grill will be ready to go whenever you need it.
